New Mexico Methane Rules

New Mexico Looks for ‘Sweet Spot’ In Crafting Methane Rules (AP & Reuters)
Susan Bryan (AP, July 21): New Mexico stands to have some of the most expansive rules for addressing methane and other emissions from the oil and gas industry after many meetings with industry experts and environmentalists, state officials said Tues. (July 21). Policymakers with New Mexico’s energy and environment agencies say they have combined what has worked well in other states with some new ideas to craft a set of regulations that will mandate significant emissions reductions by the end of 2026. According to a Reuters story (Valerie Volcovici, July 21), NM environmental groups praised the announcement, while “the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association did not say if it supported the proposals but said its members will continue providing technical expertise to the state.”  Link to AP Story > Link to Reuters Story >  Link to New Mexico Draft Methane Rules
